Takeaways from attending a Podcast SEO workshop

Yesterday, I attended the in-person event, “Podcast SEO: Define Your Strategy & Launch Your Campaign” in Brooklyn.

It’s the first of hopefully many in-person events that podcast expert and extraordinaire, hosted, in partnership with Ausha. Specifically, this was part of her 30-Day podcast challenge, which you can join at any time, and get part of her newsletter for , where we have been getting tons of useful, often free tools and resources. Plus, the networking has been crazy! I have had at least two calls with others, listened to half a dozen new awesome podcasts, and am planning some cross-promos, but I digress.

Let’s get back on topic: Podcast SEO. Arielle began by saying this topic has become popular and for good reason. If you optimize and experiment with keywords, the people who need to find your podcast can and will find you.

What holds people back from understanding and experimenting SEO?

“People feel a barrier to technology, but … you know a lot more than you think you know.” – Arielle

We began with some common and necessary terms. From HTML to uploading the transcript to the meta description, we used examples, discussed long-form and short-form keywords.

Odile, from Ausha explained these steps all help search engines organize and help you.

As an exercise, we searched for podcasts that we liked and see how did it come up, what did we like that they did that stood out, etc.

An example was that for the Twenty Thousand Hertz Podcast, in their description, they gave suggested starter episodes for first-time listeners.

Another example was Ologies episode, where they had the word, then capitalized keywords that the word is associated with.

These were things that many independent podcasters in attendance considered adding: a starter pack, adding keywords somewhere, in the title, description, that made sense, which helped with listeners’ search results.

In the last activity, we all searched our own ranking in on Ausha, which is offering a discount to 30-day challenge participants. And indeed, as Arielle hoped, we were proven that we do know more than we thought we knew. More importantly, we understood more about Podcast SEO, what to pay attention to, and what to consider.

Check the challenge out, sign up, and even after that time, is continuing more virtual and in-person events to give podcasters resources to help them make the most of the medium!

Are you in the challenge? Let us know in the comments! And if you think others would benefit from joining, share this post!
