Having a podcast is easy, but building one people actually want to listen to is harder.

That’s what Safe Passages is about.

Hi, I’m Tara šŸ‘©šŸ» I’ve spent 10+ years working in podcasting as a producer and strategist, helping creators and media companies build shows, develop ideas, work with guests, structure episodes, and figure out what makes people keep listening.

I’ve also learned plenty of things the hard way. So I created Safe Passages to share what I know. This is without the complicated theory or pretending every podcast needs the same formula.

Just practical lessons from doing the work.

These are some podcasts that I produced episodes for.

Who is Safe Passages for?

It’s for you if you’re:

  • Thinking about starting a podcast

  • Already making a podcast but feel stuck

  • Not sure what you should fix

  • Struggling to make episodes more engaging

  • Looking for better guests

  • Trying to improve your storytelling

  • Wondering why people aren’t listening as much as you hoped

  • Trying to turn your podcast into something bigger than another piece of content

You don’t need to be an expert.

You don’t need a huge audience.

You don’t even need to have launched your show yet.

✨You just need to care about making something people want to come back to.✨

What you’ll find here

Safe Passages has two sides.

One teaches you about podcasting.

The other shows you how I put those ideas into practice.

Tuesdays: podcast episodes + stories

Every other month, I release a new Safe Passages Podcast episode.

On the Tuesdays in between, I publish an article or clip based on a podcast episode.

The podcast focuses on travel and digital wellness based on real experiences.

You’ll hear conversations that include:

How families handle technology.

Finding meaningful relationships when you travel.

The complicated ways technology has changed how we live.

But there’s another reason I make the podcast.

It’s a showcase of how I approach podcasting.

You can hear how I develop ideas.

How I structure an episode.

How I tell a story.

How I work with guests.

How I turn an experience into something another person wants to keep listening to.

In other words… you don’t just get me telling you how I think a podcast should work.

✨You get to hear me do it.✨

Thursdays: practical podcasting

Every Thursday I write about podcasting. This is where we get into the work.

We’ll talk about:

  • Podcast strategy

  • Production

  • Storytelling

  • Episode structure

  • Guest booking

  • Interviewing

  • Creating stronger conversations

  • Making episodes more engaging

  • Building trust with listeners

  • Growing an audience

  • Turning listeners into customers, clients or fans

My goal is simple: I want you to finish an article knowing something you can actually try.

✨Because advice is nice, but knowing what to do next is better.✨

šŸŽ§ Podcast Episode

Here, a parent shares personal experiences with giving screen time restrictions for her kids. We also go over Jonathan Haidt’s The Anxious Generation and the bigger questions around childhood, technology and digital life.

šŸ“° A written article based on the episode is:

These stories are more than topics I find interesting.

They’re examples of the kind of work I care about:

Finding an idea.

Finding the story inside it.

Finding the right person to talk about it.

Then turning all of it into something worth listening to.
